Two-Player Hnefatafl on One Device
Play Hnefatafl on One Device
Set a phone, tablet, or computer between you and start playing without creating a room or waiting for a connection. Attackers move first: tap a piece, then choose its destination. Agree on takebacks before the opening move, and swap sides for the next game if you are keeping score.
Before You Start
Place the device where both players can reach it. The attacker begins by selecting a piece and then a legal destination.
Keep two rules in mind: soldiers are captured by sandwiching, and the king escapes only by reaching a corner.
Decide whether takebacks are allowed before the first move. For a balanced match, play two games and swap the attacking side.

Follow the Turn
The status bar shows whether the attackers or defenders are next. Tap one of your pieces to reveal its legal destinations, then choose a highlighted square. Selecting the wrong piece does not cost a turn; simply choose another. Pass the device when the side to move changes.

Legal Does Not Mean Best
Most questions concern whether a soldier has been captured, whether a king beside the throne is fully surrounded, or who may enter a corner. The board applies those rules before showing each destination. A highlighted square is legal, but it is not necessarily the strongest move.

Swap Sides After Each Game
Black always moves first, so a fair set gives each person one game as the attackers. The move list records every starting and destination square, making it easy to replay the turn when a corner was left open or an escape route disappeared.
